Special needs teachers caught bullying their students

Fewer things piss me off like Big People picking on the vulnerable. This pisses me off:

After continuous complaints from [Cheyanne], her parents decided that before they took action, they needed proof … and hid a tape recorder in their daughter’s clothing. What they picked up has sparked shock and outrage — the educators were calling the child lazy and dumb.

“Don’t you want to do something about that belly,” the recording obtained by WBNS reveals former teaching aide Kelly Chaffins saying to the student.

“Yes,” the girl responded.

“Well, evidently you don’t because you don’t do anything at home,” Chaffins said. “You sit at home and watch TV.”

“Don’t call me special,” [Julio] told the teacher.

“What? Oh my god, f-ing. What does the sign on the front of the school say? Special education,” the teacher yelled back.

[Julio] defended himself by saying that when he got out of the school, the teacher couldn’t call him special anymore. In response, the teacher made a threat.

“…I will kick your ass from here to kingdom-come until I’m 80 years old.”

Teacher: Christy Wilt. Aide: Kelly Chaffins. Mr. Macho: unnamed. But we’ll know who you are soon enough, pal. There’s not enough world for a coward like you to hide in.

Texas Mom who sexted boy gets banned from the internet

We tip-toe into the High Court Of Humanity and approach the judge in sidebar, to whisper “Jeez what is wrong with us?”

Texas Mom Banned From Using Internet After ‘Sexting’ 16-Year-Old Boy
By Matthew Bryan Beck | Christian Post | Nov 14 2011

A 38-year-old Texas mom has pleaded guilty Friday of online solicitation of a minor for texting nude photographs of herself to her friend’s 16-year-old son. Lori David was sentenced to five years’ probation.

Investigators said David and the boy’s mother were “jogging buddies,” and that the boy was a high school classmate of David’s son. The boy told investigators that the woman befriended him when she volunteered at the school, and friended him on Facebook.

…According to court documents, David sent the teen two lewd nude photos of herself on Oct. 14, 2010. She was arrested at her home on Nov. 4, 2010, and was later released on bond. Visibly shaken in court Friday, she trembled and cried before the bench.

I am reminded of this:

Elaine: Ugh, I hate people.
Jerry: Yeah, they’re the worst.

Victims of the Catholic Church’s stealing and selling of Spanish babies

With proper attention being paid to a shocking BBC Two documentary, the suddenly exposed truth of what went on in Spain between 1940 and 1990 hit many of us like a bombshell. Reading articles on tonight’s debut broadcast, I couldn’t believe it: the Catholic Church had stolen and sold up to 300,000 babies.

Today, BBC news continued to tell the story:

Spain’s stolen babies and the families who lived a lie
By Katya Adler | BBC News, Spain

I first met Manoli Pagador in Getafe, in a working-class suburb of Madrid. She was attending a meeting for people affected by the scandal Spaniards call “ninos robados” – stolen children. She has three daughters and lots of grandchildren, but she has never got over the loss of her first-born – a son – nearly 40 years ago.

She had come to think she was crazy for believing he was alive, instead of dead and buried as hospital doctors had told her. “Now,” she said, gripping my hand tightly. “Look around the room at the other women here. All like me. The same background. The same experience. I’m not mad and my family finally believes me.”

In 1971 Manoli, who was 23 at the time and not long married, gave birth to what she was told was a healthy baby boy, but he was immediately taken away for what were called routine tests. Nine interminable hours passed. “Then, a nun, who was also a nurse, coldly informed me that my baby had died,” she says.

They would not let her have her son’s body, nor would they tell her when the funeral would be . .

“Doctors, nuns?” she says, almost in horror. “I couldn’t accuse them of lying. This was Franco’s Spain. A dictatorship. Even now we Spaniards tend not to question authority.”

Manoli’s child was gone. Like so many other children, her son had been stolen and sold to a ‘better’ Catholic family, somewhere else.

The scale of the baby trafficking was unknown until this year, when two men – Antonio Barroso and Juan Luis Moreno, childhood friends from a seaside town near Barcelona – discovered that they had been bought from a nun. Their parents weren’t their real parents, and their life had been built on a lie.

Juan Luis Moreno discovered the truth when the man he had been brought to call “father” was on his deathbed. “He said, ‘I bought you from a priest in Zaragoza’. He said that Antonio had been bought as well.”

The pair were hurt and angry. They say they felt like two dogs that had been bought at a pet shop.

See the article here. I am trying to dig up a source to view the documentary. When I find it, I’ll post it.

Stealing and selling 300,000 little babies: The depraved, satanic Catholic Church

I am, again, just this close to dumbstruck. Whatever gets torn in an attempt to grasp boundless evil, this tears it. Where to begin to speak of crimes so depraved and so towering in number?

In a period between 1940 and 1990, in perhaps the most successful human trafficking effort since America’s slave trade of the 18th and 19th centuries, Spain’s Catholic Church stole up to 300,000 newborn babies from their mothers. The children were then sold to Spanish Catholic customers.

The BBC have produced a documentary on the half century of nearly unspeakable crimes. It’s slated to air on Tuesday night:

Journalist Katya Adler, who has investigated the scandal, says: ‘The situation is incredibly sad for thousands of people.

‘There are men and women across Spain whose lives have been turned upside-down by discovering the people they thought were their parents actually bought them for cash. There are also many mothers who have maintained for years that their babies did not die – and were labelled “hysterical” – but are now discovering that their child has probably been alive and brought up by somebody else all this time.’

I’m having a hard time fathoming this. If it had come to light that one — only one — child had been abducted by American hospital administrators and sold to their friends, I can’t imagine the holocaust of press people and news coverage and police and Oprahs and governmental agencies and politicians that would descend upon the scandal. Criminal trials, civil trials, interviews, reunions — these would go on for years. The Catholic Church perhaps stole and sold as many children as there are people currently living in Pittsburgh.

How? How could this be possible? How will these people become reunited with their true mothers, fathers and families, their own flesh and blood? How will the legal system deal with it? How will people live with the decisions they made and the actions that were forced upon them? What an agonizing mess.

One thing we know: how the Catholic Church will react. They will, slowly and surely, across the years, over the decades, offer occasional and slightly more heartfelt apologies. Meanwhile, they’ll be furiously lobbying against criminal and civil sanctions with authorities. That’s what they always do.

I’ve had enough of this for now, my head’s pounding.

America should trash Columbus Day

Here’s a classic demonstration of how wingnuts play “telephone.” You remember the game: you and the rest of the Fox Morning Crew sit in a circle. You whisper “total eclipse of the sun” into Gretchen’s ear, and by the time it gets back to Brian, he’s saying “Bo’s evil hips had a son.”

This thing is like that. A school principle in Somerville, Massachusetts, Anne Foley, sent an e-mail to her teachers in anticipation of Columbus Day:

“When we were young we might have been able to claim ignorance of the atrocities that Christopher Columbus committed against the indigenous peoples . . We can no longer do so. For many of us and our students celebrating this particular person is an insult and a slight to the people he annihilated. On the same lines, we need to be careful around the Thanksgiving Day time as well.”

A trenchant note. A list of Columbus’ crimes might take up the whole internet. There is no reason to celebrate the monster, and it’s time we admit that. If you want to hail the Europeans’ arrival in the New World, go ahead. But forget Columbus. Forget also the Conquistadors, their death-from-horseback campaigns, and their biological warfare through smallpox. Let’s come to our senses.

Anyhoo, Principal Foley’s e-mail got hijacked by shallow fate in the writing of Boston Herald hack Jessica Heslam. She measured the tragedy of the e-mail sent to Kennedy School teachers. It was an attempt to kill happiness:

Fun takes a holiday in Somerville
School frowns on Halloween, Columbus Day – and maybe Thanksgiving

A Somerville principal has opened fire on cherished American holidays, blasting legendary explorer Christopher Columbus for “atrocities” and saying “we need to be careful” about celebrating Thanksgiving in a scathing email to teachers — who are already under orders not to let the kids dress up for Halloween.

Foley “opened fire on cherished American holidays.” She’s been night-sticking free time. She’d tear gas your Mother’s Day. The game of telephone gets harder when the first set of ears are deaf and dumb, no? But, in wingnuttia, we are familiar with how well it pays to be dense. The post became so popular it got its own badge:

. . and off went the faithful:

–Massachusetts Principal Takes Aim at Fall Holidays, Says They’re Insensitive
–Massachusetts principal gives the Grinch a run for his money
–Mass. School Principal Bans Thanksgiving Holidays
–And the Pussification of America Continues: Somerville Schools Trying To Ban Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, And Now Halloween

Principal Blackheart banned holidays, including Thanksgiving, because uncomfortable Indian peoples. Yep, there’s the truth. Funny it took an intercepted e-mail for anyone to notice. Somerville’s mayor, Joseph A. Curtatone:

No one is saying people cannot celebrate our traditional holidays, just that there’s more to them than fits on the back of a matchbook. Principal Anne Foley raised a fair point with her staff . .

. . we have nothing against Columbus Day in Somerville. We also have nothing against Thanksgiving and Halloween. On the Halloween front, on Saturday, October 23rd we will throw the biggest Halloween-themed party in the metro Boston region. We are closing down Somerville Avenue from Union Square to Porter Square for our last SomerStreets festival of the year. There will be a costume parade, costume contests, a haunted house, chainsaw pumpkin carving . .

There, done. Let’s not get silly. Puh-leeze?

. . some historians say the K-8 educator needs to do her homework.

Carol Delaney, author of “Columbus and the Quest for Jerusalem,” said the Italian explorer has been “terribly maligned.”

“He was not the one going off marauding,” she said. “There were some atrocities that happened but he was generally not involved.”

AAAUUGHH. The fool’s dodge for Columbus, it persists. His people were a rough-and-tumble lot, but Columbus was okay. Those guys were sailors, after all.

No. This apologetic crap is what’s known as “wrong.” Here’s an excerpt of Thom Hartmann I used for a Columbus Day post last year:

When Columbus and his crew arrived on their second visit to Hispaniola, however, they took captive about two thousand local villagers who had come out to greet them . .

[Diarist] Cuneo further notes that he himself took a beautiful teenage Carib girl as his personal slave, a gift from Columbus himself, but that when he attempted to have sex with her, she “resisted with all her strength.” So, in his own words, he “thrashed her mercilessly and raped her” . . .

Columbus and his men also used the Taino as sex slaves: it was a common reward for Columbus’ men for him to present them with local women to rape. As he began exporting Taino as slaves to other parts of the world, the sex-slave trade became an important part of the business, as Columbus wrote to a friend in 1500: “A hundred castellanoes (a Spanish coin) are as easily obtained for a woman as for a farm, and it is very general and there are plenty of dealers who go about looking for girls; those from nine to ten (years old) are now in demand” . .

Eventually, life for the Taino became so unbearable that, as Pedro de Cordoba wrote to King Ferdinand in a 1517 letter, “As a result of the sufferings and hard labor they endured, the Indians choose and have chosen suicide. Occasionally a hundred have committed mass suicide. The women, exhausted by labor, have shunned conception and childbirth… Many, when pregnant, have taken something to abort and have aborted. Others after delivery have killed their children with their own hands, so as not to leave them in such oppressive slavery.”

Only sixty years after Columbus first landed on Hispaniola, the Taino were all gone. Dead. When strangers are in the habit of killing themselves after they get to know you, you don’t belong on a calendar. You belong in jail.

SNAP asks the ICC to prosecute the Pope for crimes against humanity

Thousands upon thousands of incidents of child rape and molestation perpetrated across the globe. Decades, if not centuries, of the Catholic Church shielding priests from prosecutions. Shuffling deviant criminals from diocese to diocese to hide them from public exposure. Enabling the criminals to rape and molest again.

Sound like crimes against humanity to you? It sure does to me. The Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) filed the claim:

An international group for victims of sexual abuse by Catholic priests has asked the International Criminal Court to prosecute Pope Benedict XVI and three other senior Vatican officials for crimes against humanity . .

They called on the court “take action and prosecute the Pope and three other high-ranking Vatican officials for their direct and superior responsibility for the crimes against humanity of rape and other sexual violence committed around the world”.

This is a legal effort to be applauded. The crimes committed by trusted members of the clergy amount to unqualified evil. The victims are the most fragile, most vulnerable members of society. The children and teens are citizens of essentially every country in which the Catholic Church operates. And Vatican officials not only refused to stop it from occurring and to stop it from re-occurring, they acted directly to allow it to continue. What else do we need to know?

“Crimes against tens of thousands of victims, most of them children, are being covered up by officials at the highest level of the Vatican . . The Vatican officials charged in this case are responsible for rape and other sexual violence and for the physical and psychological torture of victims around the world both through command responsibility and through direct cover up of crimes. They should be brought to trial like any other officials guilty of crimes against humanity.”

Simple as that. Look at the crimes committed and the actions taken by the church, and this is clearly a case worthy of The Hague’s attention. And if you think Pope Benedict didn’t do anything wrong, think again.

Reverend Stephen Kiesle tied up and molested two boys in a church rectory in 1978. He was caught, tried and convicted. When Kiesle himself asked to be removed from the church, the Vatican did nothing, effectively retaining him as a priest. When California church officials pressed the Vatican on Kiesle, their highest “morals” official, the future pope, Cardinal Ratzinger, intervened:

This court, although it regards the arguments presented in favour of removal in this case to be of grave significance, nevertheless deems it necessary to consider the good of the Universal Church together with that of the petitioner, and it is also unable to make light of the detriment that granting the dispensation can provoke with the community of Christ’s faithful, particularly regarding the young age of the petitioner.

For the good of Ratzinger’s church, Kiesle must stay. He wasn’t ejected from the priesthood until 1987. He’s in prison today, for child molestation.

“He admitted molesting many children and bragged that he was the Pied Piper and said he tried to molest every child that sat on his lap,” said Lewis VanBlois, an attorney for six Kiesle victims who interviewed the former priest in prison. “When asked how many children he had molested over the years, he said ‘tons.”‘

Wiretaps indicate Silvio Berlusconi a sex-crazed buffoon

Mr. Greatest Politician Who Ever Lived turns out to be . . exactly as he appears. A shallow, horny old man with an addiction to hookers:

The wiretaps were released at the conclusion of an investigation into entrepreneur Gianpaolo Tarantini, who is accused of paying women to sleep with Berlusconi, 74, at his homes in 2008 and 2009 . .

“They are all well provided for,” Berlusconi tells Tarantini of the girls passing through his Rome residence in one of the thousands of recorded conversations released, which filled Italian newspapers on Saturday. In another conversation, a woman named Vanessa Di Meglio sends a text from Berlusconi’s residence to Tarantini at 5.52am asking “Who pays? Do we ask him or you?”

I suppose if you’re an Italian citizen, this is something tragic. To me, it’s hilarious. Silvio’s never pretended to be anything other than what he is: a two-bit, scummy, lying, douchebag billionaire.

Tarantini, an entrepreneur from Bari who sold prosthetic limbs before meeting Berlusconi in 2008, quickly became a confidant of the prime minister. “Listen Gianpaolo, now we need at most two each,” said Berlusconi in one call. “Because now I want that you have yours, otherwise I will always feel I am in your debt. Then we can trade. After all, the pussy needs to go around.”

You get what you vote for.

Herman Cain’s 9/11 video inspires nausea, speechlessness

Here’s a topic that’s difficult to blog.

This is a music video that claims to be a “9/11 Tribute from Herman Cain.” And right away, when politicians feel sufficiently assured of their cult of personality that they must sing to you, we’ve got a problem.

Someone’s got a problem. But this ‘tribute’ is no paltry gaffe. This isn’t merely a maudlin disaster clip from a bad singer with political ambitions. This is something far, far worse. This is one of the darkest, most disturbing videos ever recorded.

We are all familiar with singers who feel compelled to break into song upon inspiration. The former Attorney General Ashcroft was known to break into “Let the Eagle Soar,” or something disastrously cousin to it, when he came into contact with like-minded patriots.

On New Year’s Day, 2002, mere weeks after 9/11, Martina McBride roused a unified country with a spirited rendition of “God Bless America” amongst plenty of American flags, U.S. Marines, soaring fighter jets and grateful Rose Bowl paraders. Given McBride’s take and our battered psyches, that was alright by me. If only all the military symbolism hadn’t been an unheeded warning: America, your choices are slipping away.

Martina’s rendition wasn’t the best, though. This version of “God Bless America” is still the ultimate. While the arrangement may be elaborate, the singing is simple and optimistic, athletic and energetic, and utterly devoid of cheap sentimentality. Kate Smith’s take is still remarkable. If only more singers and songwriters would listen to it and take note: this is how you do musical patriotism. This is how simple inspiration sounds. If only.

Oh my god, if only. What have you done, Herman Cain? How is it you put together a video of “God Bless America” that made me physically sick? I was hit with a flood of nausea.

What is it about the roiling, churning, violent deaths of thousands of people that makes you want to sing that particular song so slowly and so badly? Why in the world would you want to re-post those awful clips of airplane strikes so we re-connect with the horrors of instant death? Why do you want to show the towers disintegrating so we realize — again — how good people died in a manner akin to being shoved into a 1000-foot meat grinder?

What sort of childish, deeply narcissistic soul believes such nightmares are soothed by his pitiable singing? What in the world is deeply, desperately wrong with you, Herman Cain? What is wrong with you?

Missouri school forces teen to write an apology to her rapist. He rapes her again, so they kick her out of school.

Okay, now I’m beginning to wonder. These abominable stories (here, here) piling up, one after another: is there something going on in the cosmos? Are we floating through a black-hearted nebula? Or are these the glorious consequences of living in a center-right country?

The latest brain-bruiser: a Springfield, Missouri special education middle school teen was raped by a fellow student. The lawsuit filed by her parents details how school officials ended up blaming her:

The suit, filed July 5, alleges when the girl — a special education student — told officials about the harassment, assault and rape that occurred during the 2008-09 school year, they told her they did not believe her. She recanted.

The suit also alleges that, without seeking her mother’s permission, school officials forced the girl to write a letter of apology to the boy and personally deliver it to him. She was then expelled for the rest of the 2008-2009 school year and referred to juvenile authorities for filing a false report.

Wow. Negligence, punishing incompetence and indifference. And it only gets worse.

She was allowed to come back to school the next year and her mother urged school officials to protect her from the male student. School officials denied the request, the suit alleges . .

In February 2010, the same boy grabbed her, dragged her to the back of the school library and raped her again, the suit alleges.

Raped a second time. How did the school react?

School officials were notified of the incident and allegedly doubted the girl’s claim, saying they’d “already been through this,” according to the lawsuit… she was suspended from school for “disrespectful conduct” and “public display of affection,” her lawyers wrote in the lawsuit.

Disrespectful conduct? My irony meter towers above me in the form of a mushroom cloud. The mother took her daughter to a child advocacy center, and they confirmed the rape. With the recovered DNA evidence entered against him, the boy pleaded guilty to the crime in juvenile court. Rightfully, the school has been served with a monster lawsuit. So district directors took a different tack:

The girl failed and neglected to use reasonable means to protect her self, the response says. Any damages the girl may have sustained, “were as a result of the negligence, carelessness, or conduct of third parties over whom the District Defendants had neither control nor the right to control . . ”

It’s only a shame school officials can’t be charged with crimes. Or we can’t just bury the district in a pit.

Rape by Catholic priests and suicides of their victims in Australia

These are the sorts of truths you don’t even want to write about. These are the stories you take in, you put your head in your hands, and you want to forget you ever heard them.

And I might just pass on all of it, the Catholic church’s child sex abuse scandal being so planet-encompassing and seemingly unending. But for the damningly black-hearted carelessness of the Ballarat Bishop, Peter Connors, I might have. But I can hardly tell you how angry I got reading his careless opinions. This is a person too irresponsible to have ever been properly put in charge of anything.

This is the latest reminder that the Catholic church hasn’t come close to realizing what, perhaps for centuries, it had become: a cabal that conspired to molest and rape children. It is only now — now that they can no longer get away with it — that they’re pretending to give a damn about addressing the crimes they’ve perpetrated.

Infuriatingly, in this case, pretending is all they’re prepared to do:

Church sex abuse inquiry ‘not needed’
Kellee Nolan | Herald Sun | August 3, 2011

An inquiry into suicides among victims of sexual abuse by Catholic priests and brothers in Victoria would achieve little, a Catholic bishop says.

Police investigating the case of convicted pedophile Brother Robert Best believe at least 26 victims of sexual abuse at schools in which he taught have committed suicide.

So, let us get this straight: 26 dead bodies, but no wider investigation? And you’re not stonewalling anything, Bishop? If 26 nuns had been raped and later killed themselves, wouldn’t you want to know how such an immense tragedy came to be?

“I don’t think they’ll learn very much more … I’m convinced we’ve done the best we can in more recent years.”

Best, who taught at schools throughout Victoria, including Ballarat, will be sentenced on Monday after pleading guilty to 27 charges of abusing 11 boys between 1969 and 1988.

. . and that’s the end of the story? That’s the beginning, Bishop Connors. How is it Best managed to get away with it for so long? Who else knew about it? Somebody knew about it, that’s guaranteed. When kids were killing themselves, no one thought twice about it?

But Bishop Connors on Tuesday said not even revelations from Detective Sergeant Kevin Carson that 26 young men had killed themselves after being abused by priests and brothers in Ballarat convinced him that more would be learnt from an inquiry.

“I think we’ve learnt a lot of things about what is appropriate behaviour and what’s not appropriate behaviour,” Bishop Connors said.

“I think people are very well informed nowadays as to what’s inappropriate approaches from a male.”

What the FUCK does THAT mean? This Connors guy might be the single most ill-equipped individual to deal with these horrific issues. Sadly, one of Best’s fellow pedophiles (there were more, of course) would be better suited to respond with a mote’s bit of compassion.

While conceding the abuse of children was wrong, he said that in the past it had not always been clear to everyone what was appropriate and inappropriate behaviour.

“In the past a lot of ignorance was there on the part of lots of people. Parents didn’t understand, sometimes bishops didn’t understand. We have no excuse now.”

It’s like the darkest bit of sketch comedy ever staged. Except it keeps going on and on.

Among the charges laid against Best in Victoria’s County Court last month were details of him raping a nine-year-old boy in his office.

The court heard that after Best raped him, the boy thought he was going to die and blacked out.

Bishop Connors said in the past 14 years he had spoken to more than 30 victims of [convicted child molester Father Gerald] Ridsdale and other priests in the Ballarat diocese.

But he said none had told him they were also abused by Best.

“I can’t remember them saying they were victims of Brother Best as well,” he said.

The bishop said he had no reason to meet Best’s victims “because he being a Christian Brother, I’m not responsible for him.”

Unbelievable. Just unbelievable.

Ah, the poor, lying Wall Street Journal

This is funny. The poor, hounded Wall Street Journal, boo hoo, takes to its own pages. You all should know how hurt they are after their CEO, Les Hinton, resigned in the wake of their parent company, Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., being exposed for outrageous, criminal scumbaggery.

It isn’t fair!

News and Its Critics
A tabloid’s excesses don’t tarnish thousands of other journalists.
Wall Street Journal | July 18, 2011

. . It is also worth noting the irony of so much moral outrage devoted to a single media company, when British tabloids have been known for decades for buying scoops and digging up dirt on the famous. Fleet Street in general has long had a well-earned global reputation for the blind-quote, single-sourced story that may or may not be true. The understandable outrage in this case stems from the hacking of a noncelebrity, the murder victim Milly Dowler.

Sure, our people are scumbags. Fleet Street are scumbags! Yeah! Whaddya want . . ? But one teenaged kid, ferchrisssakes. Sheesh.

Yeah, it was the 13 year old’s voicemails that they hacked. And deleted — causing the family to believe she was still alive when she was already dead. Yikes.

But this whole thing started years ago, 2006, when it was discovered Rupert’s News of the World routinely hacked the phones of the British royal family. Editor Clive Goodman and private investigator Glenn Mulcaire were arrested and sent to prison. And from there, in slow motion, the scandal blows up and blows up. So I don’t know what the WSJ are huffing at.

Mulcaire is a central figure in the story — investigations into his dealings recovered “4,000 names or partial names and nearly 3,000 full or partial telephone numbers.” While Rupert’s NOTW and parent company routinely lied to and stonewalled investigators over the years, the extent of the massive hacking eventually became clear.

Victims: former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, royal family members and aides, celebrities, government officials, News of the World’s own executives, soccer coaches and officials, publicists, a dead teenage girl, dead soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan and their families, murder victims of the 7/7 bombings and their families, and hundreds upon hundreds more. In other words, if you were anybody that the public had taken an interest in, for any reason — even if you were dead — Rupert’s people came after you with a vengeance. Nothing was private or sacred. Oh, and let’s not forget: they were bribing Scotland Yard all the while.

But back to the WSJ:

The political mob has been quick to call for a criminal probe into whether News Corp. executives violated the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act with payments to British security or government officials in return for information used in news stories. Attorney General Eric Holder quickly obliged last week, without so much as a fare-thee-well to the First Amendment.

Not so much as a howdya-doo! The U.S. Attorney General is all uppity about bribing important people without once considering our First Amendment protections! Hey — how about the commissioner of Scotland Yard resigning yesterday? Boy, that came out of nowhere.

Who are you trying to kid? It’s out of character for the slimy Murdoch octopus to lay its gentle tentacle upon the reader this way. The Wall Street journal, ladies and gentlemen.

Just think if Uncle Rupert had to cash their chips in. We wouldn’t get any more of this:

Get Ready for a 70% Marginal Tax Rate
Michael Boskin | Wall Street Journal

. . The current top federal rate of 35% is scheduled to rise to 39.6% in 2013 (plus one-to-two points from the phase-out of itemized deductions for singles making above $200,000 and couples earning above $250,000). The payroll tax is 12.4% for Social Security (capped at $106,000), and 2.9% for Medicare (no income cap). While the payroll tax is theoretically split between employers and employees, the employers’ share is ultimately shifted to workers in the form of lower wages.

Did you catch that? That’s something Rupert’s people never do — what’s known as ‘lying.’ Payroll taxes are the taxes for Social Security and Medicare. You pay half, your employer pays half. Your part: 6.2% and 1.45%. Your employer: the same. But in the world of the Fleet Street Journal, your employer pays only “theoretically.” Put a gun up to your employer’s head and he’ll produce the receipts, though. Strange.

Obama’s considering a payroll tax break for businesses, and, if it comes through, you can expect immediate reimbursement from your employer. When manatees fly.

Thus the marginal tax rate paid on wages combining all these taxes is 44.1%.

That would be in the real world. In the mystical fairyland of Planet Earth, it’s 35% + 1.45% = 36.45%. Which is not bad for whatever chunk of money you make above $370,000 a year.

So, for a family in high-cost California taxed at the top federal rate, the expiration of the Bush tax cuts in 2013, the 0.9% increase in payroll taxes to fund ObamaCare, and the president’s proposal to eventually uncap Social Security payroll taxes would lift its combined marginal tax rate to a stunning 58.4%.

. . and, as usual, nothing adds up. I mean Mr. Reality can’t even tally his own numbers, it’s hilarious. The “stunning” 58.4% is an increase of 14.3%. Between the additional 6.2% in Social Security tax (closing the post-$106,000 gap, which Obama can’t swing), the 0.9% bump in Medicare, the 10.5% levy in California (which already exists [??]), and the 4.6% federal tax increase if — IF — we dumped the Bush cuts . . what again? Boing!

It would be a shame to be denied journalism like this.

Gary Cass has the un-Christian gall to post a “It Does Not Get Better” video

I suppose it had to happen. Some Christian ass would take it upon himself to counterattack the potent, heartfelt “It Gets Better” video series that speaks to the difficulties of growing up gay in America.

Dan Savage’s project urges gays who have made the painful, difficult transition to open adulthood to talk about it:

Many LGBT youth can’t picture what their lives might be like as openly gay adults. They can’t imagine a future for themselves. So let’s show them what our lives are like, let’s show them what the future may hold in store for them.

It’s a great message: though hopelessness is what many gay teens feel, they don’t have to accept it. ‘Your life can and will get better.’

Some folks, though, didn’t appreciate the noble effort. For Gary Cass of the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission (really?), this message needed knocking down. So he defames all of homosexuality and homosexuals in this horrible, horrible video:

It Doesn’t Get Better from on Vimeo.

The ‘scholarship’ here is pathetic. Gary says the homos are a sickly bunch, like AIDS is a gay disease — just look at what the CDC says. Except the report he uses looks at epidemiology only in the United States where probably half of the cases are transmitted through homosexual sex. Outside the U.S., the majority of cases are transmitted through heterosexual sex. So the larger truth is it’s the straights, like Gary Cass, who are the sickly ones.

Meanwhile, in an accompanying post, Gary would remind you gay parenting is infectious, too:
