Conservatives taking news of the verdict as expected

11 o’clock at night on a Sunday. There are quite a few people wide awake and angry here in Los Angeles. There were enough of them a few hours ago that they swarmed onto the 10 freeway and shut the thing down. Plenty more of them around the intersection of Adams and Crenshaw, still calling for justice for Trayvon. Call for it all you like, but it’s long gone. Florida took its one and only swing at it and whiffed.

I just got done watching some of the live local coverage of the protestors. There was this young woman there who had giant tears slowly rolling down her face. She said something about America coming together. Someone, somewhere out there will find this hysterically funny and post the image of her sorry face on a conservative blog, and the hyenas will piss their khakis with laughter. I don’t know what’s more predictable: six white ladies in Florida letting Zimmerman skate or right-wingers utterly befouling themselves in the aftermath.

[Tucker] Carlson said that he felt “terrible” for the Martin family, but he was “positive that people like Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton do not deserve to be called civil rights leaders. They are not.”

“They are hustlers and pimps who make a living off inflaming racial tensions,” he continued.

Thank god we have Tucker around to douse the fires. He could have turned us into a permanent post-racial country by dropping a couple well deserved n-bombs, but then what would he do next? Cure cancer? With an asbestos vaccine, you can bet.

“I hope that this is the end,” [Karl] Rove said. “President Obama politicized this at the beginning of it, I believe, unfortunately, by injecting himself into it and saying that if Trayvon Martin — that if he’d have had a son it would look like Trayvon Martin.”

“We need a president to bring us together, not rip us apart,” he added.

Trayvon was too young to legally buy a beer, or join the army, or vote in an election. And he was black. But it wasn’t his murder that bothered Karl so much as having all that personal crap pointed out. If Obama had guessed that getting shot probably hurt, some part of the country probably would have seceded. Think of the fun Karl could have had running Dumbfuckistan.

Why it’s the Confederate Yankee, Bob Owens.

In all his glory.

That loser didn’t even graduate high school. Oh right, because he died. Still, it’s true.

Lastly, you’re going to have a hard time believing this one. There’s apparently a website called Mr. Conservative [no link because, well, you’ll see]. The guys who run the place decided, in the roiling wake of the trial, that they would grab their video cameras and go interview . . black people. I kid you not. Mr. Conservative wanted to know what The Blacks were thinking. These geniuses hadn’t caught any hints in the media over the past 17 months.

So they ventured outside, to an eerie urban locale we presume, and mere hours after the verdict they find some of The Blacks. And they ask The Blacks about it. And The Blacks turn out to be no fans of George Zimmerman, to be sure. But then the subjects turn the tables on the interviewer: “Well, what do you think?” And Mr. Conservative, the mental giant, says: “He had to stand his ground.” And whaddyaknow . .

. . this makes The Blacks angry. Furious, in fact, and they want to beat Mr. Conservative’s stupid ass. So of course Mr. Conservative now features the hottest webpage in the wingnut blogosphere: Black Mob Beats Up White Guy Over Zimmerman Verdict – ON TAPE. Fully appointed with trenchant commentary:

Scott Black

his first mistake was asking a bunch of yard apes an opinion on the rule of law.they only thing yard apes care about is free money and whitey paying for their shit, they are too lazy and too stupid to earn a decent living.

Shannon Mcentyre

there you have it folks…and to your left…the North American Street Monkey.

Chuck Harrell

Typical fuckings niggers that can’t handle the fucking truth, low life pieces of shit.

Doesn’t it make you wanna . . sigh. Charlie was right, nothing good came out of this mess. Scary to think that this could all be worse tomorrow.

Zimmerman found not guilty

Breaking, unfortunately:

A Florida jury on Saturday found George Zimmerman not guilty in the shooting death of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin, in a case that sparked a national debate on race and guns.

The panel of six women, which was sequestered, deliberated more than 16 hours over two days until nearly 10 p.m. on Saturday (0200 GMT Sunday).

Zimmerman appeared stoned-faced as the verdict was announced, but then showed a slight smile of relief. His parents embraced each other and his wife was tearful.

Unbelievable.

Demonstrators exclaimed disbelief, one by one, as they learned on their phones Saturday night that George Zimmerman was found not guilty of murdering Trayvon Martin.

At 10:02 p.m. ET “Justice for Trayvon!” chants erupted from fist-waving people at the fountain across from the courthouse.

“The system has failed!” irate demonstrators started chanting.

The waiting game under way for the hundreds of protesters anticipating a verdict outside the Seminole County Criminal Justice Center was finally over.

Nina Mays of Tulsa, Okla., was outraged by the verdict.

“This is going to impact a lot of people in a lot of different places,” Mays said minutes after the announcement., standing a few yards from chanting protesters.

“How is the law different for one and not for the other? Trayvon was standing his ground when Zimmerman came and messed with him, a young man coming from the store,” she said.

That’s a good question. How can the law be different for different people? It always has been, I suppose. It still is.

Of course:

And race was nowhere to be found in this case, though it loiters conspicuously on Twitter.

Say goodbye to Trayvon

Well he’s been dead for awhile. But it’s the Thrilling Big Trial that’s now about to go away, forever. So you all better hurry up and get in your final shots.

Cuz didn’t you think he was a loser? A gol ‘teef welfare waste? A quintessential n*gger? Didn’t you figure him for a gangsta punkass? And haven’t you seen him before, somewhere? This (snort) Tray-Von? Wasn’t he quite the strapping young buck, and didn’t George Zimmerman give him just what he deserved that fateful night?

At that point, the defense attorney displayed a shirtless photo of the 17-year-old African-American wearing only a hat with his bare chest and shoulders exposed. In the photo, which was originally released to the media by Zimmerman’s defense team in May, Martin sits expressionless on a couch.

O’Mara continued to show the photo to the jury for nearly two minutes as he explained that autopsy photographs did not show Martin’s “muscle tone.”

“But here’s him three months before that night, it’s in evidence, take a look at it,” he said. “Because this is the person… who George Zimmerman encountered that night. This is the person, who all of the evidence was attacked — or attacked George Zimmerman, broke his nose or something close to it and battered him on something.”

Don’t blame the establishment. It was his defenders that trafficked in race. His family, his friends. The liberal media. They wanted to make the criminal a hero. Haven’t they tried to turn this killing into a Thing? Isn’t it appalling? Isn’t it disgusting? To hang a murder rap on some poor fellow for no reason?

“This was a case brought because of political pressure — race politics in this country. I hate to say it: I hold the Rev. Al Sharpton in much higher regard than many of my colleagues . . but I totally believe that the Rev. Al is the catalyst behind the murder-two charge six weeks after the incident . . I think it is a self-defense situation, a classic self-defense when you strip it of all the trappings.”

Because, tell me. Wasn’t Sanford, the community – stripped of other considerations – overrun with these thugs? And weren’t they all black? Be honest with me now. They’re all black. He was black, too.

“I see those six ladies [in the jury] putting themselves on that rainy night, in that housing complex that has just been burglarized by three or four different groups of black youngsters from the adjacent community. So it’s a dark night, a 6-foot-2-inch hoodie-wearing stranger is in the immediate housing complex. How would the ladies of that jury have reacted? I submit that if they were armed, they would have shot and killed Trayvon Martin a lot sooner than George Zimmerman did.”

Right?

The Zimmerman clan, or klan, and the court of public opinion

The Zimmerman family are certainly paying close attention to what George’s lawyers, public relations flaks and social media advisers are telling them. Every two or so weeks one of them steps onto internet center stage and sings another charming passage of the rehabilitation opera.

Last month it was George’s brother Robert writing a piece for the Daily Caller. And wasn’t it a surprise to read that George spent his free time playing civil rights warrior:

In December 2010, a black homeless man named Sherman Ware was assaulted by a well-connected white man named Justin Collison in front of a bar in Sanford, Florida . .

My brother George Zimmerman, who lived in Sanford at the time, fought for justice on Ware’s behalf . .

George made fliers about the incident and distributed them at black churches. He asked the community for help, informing them of what he perceived to be a grave injustice. George was incensed that although a warrant for Collison’s arrest had been issued, Collison had not yet been arrested.

Meanwhile, though George pleaded with them, the evil NAACP did nothing. Until the brouha turned into a big deal, and then they stepped all over the poor wretch to take credit for whatever. In the meantime . .

. . George continued to demand that the police be held accountable. He attended a community meeting, where he spoke to the newly installed mayor and other leaders. He urged them to revoke the outgoing police chief’s pension. “The law is written in black and white,” George said. “It should not and cannot be enforced in the gray for those … in the thin blue line.”

Let’s pause a moment for everyone to dab their tears. In addition to this ‘Eyes On The Prize’ episode from the Zimmerman Public Broadcasting System, the family and their supporters have managed plenty more. They dug up better, bloodier photos of George on that fateful night. The lawyers also did swell business dirtying Trayvon in court, claiming they possessed a shocking video from the teen’s cellphone showing his pals beating up homeless men. When his ‘pals’ turned out to be more homeless people, the counselors snickered and offered an obligatory “Oops.” Mission accomplished.

And it continues. Today we see the latest effort in the extra-judicial trial. George’s dad, Robert Sr., just published an Amazon-available e-book about the murder called “Florida v. Zimmerman: Uncovering the Malicious Prosecution of my Son, George.” If you anticipated that the pater Zimmerman would exhibit a defter touch in matters of race than his sons, you were wrong.

The most striking chapter is called “Who Are The True Racists,” an apparent effort to rebut claims that his son’s actions were racially motivated.

Previously, Zimmerman Sr. “believed generally racism was a thing of the past.” He says that, personally, he hadn’t encountered much racism, even though his wife is Hispanic. But after his son shot and killed Trayvon Martin, however, Zimmerman learned that racism is “flourishing at the insistence of some in the African American Community.” He then goes on to list various black leaders and organizations that he believes are racist:

. . and I provide you the identities of these supremacists. See if your racial animus meter as well grows white hot at the mere mention of the brutes: The NAACP, President Ben Jealous, the Congressional Black Caucus, the United Negro College Fund, the National Association of Black Law Enforcement Officers, the Martin family attorneys, and the NBA. They’re all racists, all of these organizations, all of these people, they can’t stand white people — every one of them.

If the gurus of public perception flitting about the Zimmerman compound believe this will endear George to the jurors among the masses, they’re stealing their salaries. Regular folk don’t think the NAACP are vicious. Nor do they think that cops and funeral directors are crazies. This makes me wonder if George’s begging America’s racists for donations for his defense wasn’t a rancid strategy. I wonder if it didn’t fill the Zimmermans’ pockets with bad intentions.

Zimmerman Sr. says that because of [Eric] Holder’s decision to investigate whether Trayvon Martin’s death violated federal civil rights laws, the FBI did not have “adequate resources to investigate clearly identified potential terrorist [sic] in the Boston area.” Now, “tragically, we have suffered the consequences of Mr. Holder’s politically motivated decisions.”

Both the Department of Justice and the FBI launched Sanford, Florida, investigations in March 2012. The Boston marathon was two months ago, in Boston. Maybe the Zimmermans are just morons.

[YAWN] Oprah’s scoop: O.J. Simpson admits he killed Nicole

The ‘confession’ continues to burn down the rumor mill:

Has O.J. Simpson confessed murder to Oprah? Huge TV interview planned in which convict ‘will admit he killed Nicole in self-defence as she pulled a knife on him’
Paul Bentley | Daily Mail [*cough*]

O.J Simpson has confessed to Oprah Winfrey that he murdered his former wife, it has been reported.

The talk show host made headlines recently saying that one of her regrets was never having got the shamed former sportsman to confess to the killing.

And it appears her wish may well have come true with reports Simpson has already told one of her producers in an interview from jail that he knifed ex-wife Nicole in self-defence – a confession he will now repeat to the talk show queen during a spectacular televised sit down interview.

To me, a single thing: Oprah’s camp should have knocked this crap down hours ago. Ok, maybe a #double: National Enquirer have previously delivered on their exclusives. [three? jeez, Ron Goldman was only delivering some take-out eyeglasses.]

Nice fantasy though.

add: Wingnuts revel in the truth, finally. The facts always come out, don’t they? Sure.

James Arthur Ray guilty of three counts of negligent homicide in sweat lodge deaths.

Self-help guru convicted in Arizona sweat lodge deaths
By Nicholas Riccardi | June 22, 2011

A jury in Arizona on Wednesday convicted a bestselling author and self-help guru in the deaths of three clients during a sweat lodge ceremony in 2009 that was intended to help participants overcome adversity to reach their full potential.

After hearing four months of testimony, the eight-man, four-woman jury deliberated for fewer than 12 hours before finding James Arthur Ray guilty of three counts of negligent homicide. The panel acquitted Ray of the more serious charges of manslaughter.

Wearing a dark jacket and dress shirt, Ray sat silently in the courtroom, his face breaking into relief when the manslaughter charges were rejected, only to swallow hard when the clerk announced that the jury had convicted him of the lesser charges.

New York Times:

New Age Guru Guilty in Sweat Lodge Deaths
MARC LACEY | June 22, 2011

. . A motivational speaker and author, Mr. Ray seemed to breathe a sigh of relief when he was found not guilty on the first manslaughter charge. But he looked stunned a moment later when the guilty verdicts came in. Watching the verdict were relatives of Mr. Ray as well as family members and friends of the victims, many of them holding hands as the decision was read . .

The defense said the three victims were not coerced by Mr. Ray and may have died from unknown toxins in the sweat lodge, a round wood-frame structure covered with blankets and tarps. Besides the three deaths, numerous other participants were injured during the ceremony, which was intended to push people to conquer their limitations. All had signed waivers warning that death was among the risks, Mr. Ray’s lawyers noted.

“You will have to get to a point to where you surrender and it’s O.K. to die,” Mr. Ray said in a recording during the ceremony that was played at the trial. After he spoke, a chaotic scene took place, according to witnesses at the trial, who described severely ill people being dragged out of the lodge.

South Africa’s prevalent ‘rape culture’: 25% of all men, 5% in the last year

If the polling is accurate, then what’s been going on in South Africa is a real nightmare. It appears that rape is a widely accepted, if not venerated, practice among men in South Africa. Rape is widespread and initially practiced by teens: 75% of rapists admitted doing it for the first time by age 20. Even 10% of men admitted to being raped.

Quarter of Men in South Africa Admit Rape, Survey Finds

One in four men in South Africa have admitted to rape and many confess to attacking more than one victim, according to a study that exposes the country’s endemic culture of sexual violence.

Three out of four rapists first attacked while still in their teens, the study found. One in 20 men said they had raped a woman or girl in the last year.

South Africa is notorious for having one of the highest levels of rape in the world. Only a fraction are reported, and only a fraction of those lead to a conviction.

The study into rape and HIV, by the country’s Medical Research Council (MRC), asked men to tap their answers into a Palm Pilot device to guarantee anonymity. The method appears to have produced some unusually frank responses.

Professor Rachel Jewkes of the MRC, who carried out the research, said: “We have a very, very high prevalence of rape in South Africa. I think it is down to ideas about masculinity based on gender hierarchy and the sexual entitlement of men. It’s rooted in an African ideal of manhood.”

Jewkes and her colleagues interviewed a representative sample of 1,738 men in South Africa’s Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal provinces.

Of those surveyed, 28% said they had raped a woman or girl, and 3% said they had raped a man or boy. Almost half who said they had carried out a rape admitted they had done so more than once, with 73% saying they had carried out their first assault before the age of 20…

One in 10 men said they had been forced to have sex with another man. Many find it difficult to report such attacks to the police in subcultures where the concept of homosexuality is taboo…

Before his election as president, Jacob Zuma stood trial for the rape of a family friend. His supporters demonstrated at the court house, verbally attacked his accuser and sang “burn the bitch, burn the bitch”. Zuma was eventually acquitted…

Zuma, a polygamist, was criticized for emphasizing his Zulu tribal identity and singing militant songs during this year’s election campaign. He made comments that outraged anti-Aids and gender campaigners…

“We hear men saying, ‘If Jacob Zuma can have many wives, I can have many girlfriends.’ The hyper-masculine rhetoric of the Zuma campaign is going to set back our work in challenging the old model of masculinity.”…

A report published by the trade union Solidarity earlier this month said that one child is raped in South Africa every three minutes, with 88% of rapes going unreported. It found that levels of child abuse in South Africa are increasing rapidly.
